JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot a final round 4-under-par 68 and won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club medalist honors with a total of 13-under-par 203. The tournament was played at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club at The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn.

The junior from Harare, Zimbabwe has won three of the four events the team has played this fall. He defeated Thomas Birdsey of Wake Forest and Denny McCarthy of Virginia by two strokes. Vincent finished fourth in the only event he did not win. He carded rounds of 67-68-68=203 at Blackthorn Club.

The Hokies’ shot a 21-under-par 843 and finished in second place, one stroke behind Virginia. Tech shot a 4-under-par 284 on Friday and followed with a 6-under-par 282 on Saturday. The Hokies then posted an 11-under-par 277 on Sunday to finish with the 843.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) also continued his early-season outstanding play, as he finished in fifth place at 8-under-par 208. Chalkley shot a 4-under-par 68 on Sunday and, like Vincent, carded all three rounds under-par this weekend. Chalkley has finished in the top 20 of all four events this fall, including two top 5 finishes.

Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) tied for 14th place at 213, following a 4-under-par 68 on Sunday. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) tied for 40th place at 220 and freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.), making his first appearance in the Hokies’ starting line-up, tied for 51st place at 222.

Two Hokies played this event as individuals. Freshman Drew Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.) tied for 40th place at 220 and junior Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) finished in 76th place at 246.

The Cavaliers shot a final-round 13-under-par 275, finishing at 22-under-par 842. They defeated Tech by one stroke and third place Kent State by two strokes. All three teams are ranked in the top 20 nationally. Host ETSU was fourth at 852, Wake Forest was fifth at 856, Memphis was sixth at 858 and Tennessee was seventh at 861. Missouri was eighth at 866, UNC Wilmington was ninth at 868 and Coastal Carolina and Furman tied for 10th at 871. Army was 12th at 882, Penn State was 13th at 911 and Villanova finished 14th at 961.

The event once again claimed an outstanding field. Half of the 14 teams are ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, led by the No. 13 Hokies. Six of the teams are in the top 50 of the Golfstat.com poll. Three teams; Tech, Virginia and Kent State, are ranked in the top 20 of both polls. Five individuals, including No. 8 Scott Vincent of Virginia Tech, are ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin.

The Hokies will close out the Fall 2013 portion of the schedule on Oct. 26 and 27 in Greensboro, N.C., as they will compete in the UNCG Bridgestone Invitational at the Grandover Resort.
