JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team has a two-round total of 10-under-par 566 and is in second place at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club on Saturday afternoon. The tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club at The Ridges in Johnson City, Tenn. Tech shot a 4-under-par 284 on Friday and followed by a 6-under-par 282 on Saturday.

Junior Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) has moved into a tie for the individual lead. He followed yesterday’s 5-under-par 67 with a 4-under-par 68. He is tied with Derek Bard of Virginia at 9-under-par 135, two strokes ahead of Thomas Birdsey of Wake Forest. Vincent entered the event ranked No. 8 nationally in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is tied for 10th place at 4-under-par 140 and junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is tied for 29th place at 145. Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) is tied for 43rd place at 147 and freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.), making his first appearance in the Hokies’ starting line-up, is tied for 50th place at 149. Chalkley shot a 3-under-par 69 on Saturday.

Two Hokies are playing this event as individuals. Freshman Drew Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.) is tied for 29th place at 145 and junior Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) is in 76th place at 169. Johnson shot a 1-under-par 71 in the second round.

Kent State has moved into first place after a 9-under-par 279 on Saturday. The Golden Flashes’ total of 12-under-par 564 is two strokes ahead of the Hokies and three strokes ahead of third place Virginia. First-round leader, host ETSU, is fourth at 568, UNC Wilmington is fifth at 572 and Tennessee and Wake Forest are tied for sixth at 573. Memphis is eighth at 576, Coastal Carolina is ninth at 580, Furman is 10th at 584 and Missouri is 11th at 586. Army is 12th at 588, Penn State is 13th at 600 and Villanova is 14th at 645.

The event once again boasts a strong field. Half of the 14 teams are ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, led by the No. 13 Hokies. Six of the teams are in the top 50 of the Golfstat.com poll. Three teams; Tech, Virginia and Kent State, are ranked in the top 20 of both polls. Five individuals, including No. 8 Scott Vincent of Virginia Tech, are ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin.
