Hokies to compete in Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate
Tech looks to continue on early season roll at Blackthorn Club

BLACKBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team travels to Johnson City, Tenn., this weekend to compete in the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club. The event will be played at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club at The Ridges. Tech has a first, second and third place finish in its three events so far this season.

The event once again boasts a strong field. Half of the 14 teams are ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, led by the No. 13 Hokies. Six of the teams are in the top 50 of the Golfstat.com poll. Three teams; Tech, Virginia and Kent State, are ranked in the top 20 of both polls. Five individuals, including No. 8 Scott Vincent of Virginia Tech, are ranked in the top 50 by Golfweek/Sagarin.

Vincent, winner of the first two events of the season, will play in the first position for Tech. The ACC Player of the Month for September, Vincent finished fourth at Brickyard last week. He enters the weekend with a 69.33 stroke average, including a 68.00 in “Crunch Time”, signifying the final round of tournaments.

Senior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) will play in the second spot for the Hokies. Chalkley, currently ranked 69th nationally, finished second to Vincent at the VCU Shootout and followed that with a tie for ninth at Brickyard last week. Junior Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) will play third for Tech. He finished fourth at VCU and 16th at Brickyard.

Sophomore Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will play in the fourth position for the Hokies. Huge has finished in the top 25 of all three events this season. Freshman Joey Lane (Great Falls, Va.) will play fifth for Tech. Lane will be making his debut in the starting line-up for the Hokies. He played in the VCU Shootout in September.Two Hokies, junior Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) and freshman Drew Johnson (Oak Ridge, N.C.) will play in the tournament as individuals and not count towards Tech’s team totals.

The teams will play a practice round on Thursday and then begin tournament play on Friday morning. The second round will be played Saturday and the final round will take place Sunday. Live stats will be available on golfstat.com and hokiesports.com.
