MANAKIN-SABOT, Va. – The Virginia Tech men’s golf team recorded a three-round total of 23-under-par 841 and won the VCU Shootout on Tuesday afternoon, defending its 2012 title in the tournament. The event was played on the par 72, 6,955-yard Manakin course at the Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va.
The Hokies shot a 1-under-par 287 on Monday morning and trailed Iowa State by five strokes. In the afternoon session, the Hokies fired a 8-under-par 280 and surpassed the Cyclones to take a two-stroke lead. Tech then posted a 14-under-par 274 to nail down the 23-stroke victory.
The Hokies’ 22-stroke victory is the largest in the nine-year history of the VCU Shootout. Tech becomes the third team to win back-to-back team titles in the event.
