MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Virginia Tech’s Bryce Chalkley and Mikey Moyers each shot four round totals of four-under-par 280 and tied with Steven Pierce and Ted Brown for third place at the State Open of Virginia. The tournament was played at the par 71, 7,026 yard Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.
Moyers, who completed his eligibility with the Hokies in the spring, shot a five-under-par 66 in Sunday’s final round. Moyers carded eight birdies, a bogey and a double bogey in the final round. His 66 was the second-lowest round of the day.
Chalkley, a rising senior from Richmond, Va., shot a 67 in the final round. He recorded four birdies and 14 pars on Sunday.
The Virginia Tech duo tied as low amateurs in the event. The total of 280 by Chalkley and Moyers was two strokes behind runner-up Adam Decker and 12 strokes behind champion Jay Woodson.
