Tech golfers travel to Furman Intercollegiate
All eight team members competing in three-day event

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech golf team will compete in the 44th Annual Furman Intercollegiate at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club this weekend, March 22-24, in Greenville, S.C.

Sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) will once again play in the first position for the Hokies. He finished third earlier this week at Mission Inn. He led the Hokies in stroke average in the fall, at 71.33. Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) is in the second position. Moyers and Vincent tied for fifth place in the Hokies’ last event, the Puerto Rico Classic in February and Moyers tied for 16th at Mission Inn.

Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) is playing third for the Hokies after a 73.27 stroke average in the fall and tying for 28th in Puerto Rico. He tied with Moyers for 16th place at Mission Inn. Sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) is in the fourth position, after shooting a 73.00 in the fall. He finished seventh at Mission Inn on Sunday. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) will play in the fifth position for Tech.

Tech will have three individuals competing in this event, as well. Redshirt juniors Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabe) and Jacob Everts (Ooltewah, Tenn.) along with sophomore Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) will play this weekend.

This year’s 21-team field includes the Hokies, along with host Furman, Akron, Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Dartmouth, East Tennessee State, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Georgia State, Iowa State, Marshall, North Florida, Presbyterian, Purdue, Samford, Temple, Troy, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford. Eight of the 21 teams are among the top 100 teams in this week’s Golfstat.com rankings, led by No. 17 North Florida.

The teams will play a practice round on Thursday and play begins Friday morning with the first round, followed by the second round on Saturday and the final round on Sunday morning. Live stats will be availble on hokiesports.com, www.FurmanPaladins.com and GolfStatResults.com.
