JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Virginia Tech posted a three-round total of five-over-par 869 and finished in eighth place at the 2012 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at Blackthorn Club at the par 72, 7,147-yard Blackthorn Club on Sunday afternoon. Tech shot rounds of 289, 283 and 297. The 283 was the second-best round of Saturday.

Junior Bryce Chalkley (Richmond, Va.) shot a three-round total of one-over-par 217 and finished in a tie for 17th place. He finished 11 strokes behind medalist Grant Milner of Memphis.

Senior Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Va.) and sophomore Scott Vincent (Harare, Zimbabwe) tied for 23rd place at 218 and sophomore Trevor Cone (Concord, N.C.) tied for 29th place at 219. Freshman Maclain Huge (Lovettesville, Va.) tied for 59th place at 225.

Two Hokies played the tournament as individuals. Sophomore Miles Curley (Rock Hill, S.C.) tied for 67th place at 230 and redshirt junior Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) finished in 73rd place at 245.

Missouri shot a final round two-under-par 286 and overtook Saturday leader Tennessee to win the team title with a three-day total of 857, defeating the Volunteers by one stroke. UNC Wilmington posted the best round of Sunday, a seven-under-par 281 and jumped into third place with an 859, one stroke ahead of Memphis. Virginia finished fifth at 861, one stroke ahead of Wake Forest and Coastal Carolina and eight strokes ahead of the Hokies. Host East Tennessee State finished ninth at 872, Penn State was 10th at 879, Army was 11th at 881, Furman was 12th at 888 and Pepperdine finished 13th at 890 .

Tech entered the event ranked 39th in the Golfstat.com rankings and 40th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Vincent is ranked 80th in the Golfstat.com individual rankings and 88th individually in Golfweek/Sagarin.

The Hokies return to action on Oct. 27-28, as they compete in the UNCG Bridgestone Invitational. This year’s event has moved to the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C. The Bridgestone will wrap-up the Hokies’ fall season.
