GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Virginia Tech golf team will return to action at the 42nd Annual Furman Intercollegiate this weekend, March 18-20, at the par-72, 6,994-yard Furman University Golf Club in Greenville, S.C. The Hokies enter the event five days after finishing second at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate.
The starting line-up for the Hokies this weekend will include seniors Marshall Bailey (Fincastle, Virginia) and Garland Green (Tazewell, Virginia), along with junior Blake Redmond (Sugar Land, Texas), sophomore Mikey Moyers (Stanardsville, Virginia) and freshman Bryce Chalkey (Richmond, Virginia). Redshirt freshman Marc MacDonald (Harare, Zimbabwe) is playing in the event as an individual. Senior Aaron Eckstein (Salem, Virginia) was slated to play this weekend, but is out indefinitely due to an injury to his left arm.
Joining the Hokies and host Paladins in this year’s 22-team field is Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, defending Furman Intercollegiate champions Clemson, Davidson, East Carolina, Elon, Francis Marion, Gardner-Webb, Kennesaw State, Louisville, Marshall, Presbyterian, Purdue, Samford, Temple, Troy, UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina, Winthrop and Wofford. Five teams, including No. 50 Virginia Tech, in this year’s field are in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate rankings.
Round one of the 54-hole tournament tees off on Friday morning at 8 a.m., with second round play slated for Saturday and final round action scheduled to begin on Sunday morning. Live scoring will be available on hokiesports.com and golfstat.com.
