Virginia Tech golfer Scott Vincent shot an opening round 3-over par 74 at the 2014 U.S. Amateur, being played at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. He is tied for 133rd place entering Tuesday’s second and final round of stroke play.
Vincent, a rising senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, made the turn at +3, but played even-par for the second nine, which was actually the front nine at the AAC’s Highland Course. Vincent is nine strokes off the lead of 3-under-par of Jimmy Beck of nearby Kennesaw State, Sam Horsfield of Scotland and Arkansas’ Taylor Moore.
Vincent will tee off in the second round at 8:25 a.m., from the first tee at the AAC’s Riverside Course. The field of 312 will participate in 18 holes of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur on both August 11 and 12 before the top 64 players advance to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.
