Vincent set to tee off at U.S. Amateur
The Notebook

Scott Vincent will begin play on Monday afternoon at the 114th U.S. Amateur Championship, to be played at the Highland course of the Atlanta Athletic Club in John’s Creek, Ga.

The rising senior from Harare, Zimbabwe, will tee off at 1:30 p.m. from the 10th tee at AAC. He is grouped in the first two rounds with Canadian Garrett Rank and Dan Stringfellow, who completed his eligibility at Auburn this past spring.

This is Vincent’s first-ever appearance in the U.S. Amateur. He earned an exemption into the championship due to his ranking in the World Amateur Golf rankings. Vincent enters the U.S. Amateur ranked 10th internationally. The top 50 in the world earn exemptions.

Vincent was named first team PING All-American this season, the first Hokie ever to earn that honor. He also earned All-ACC and All-East Region honors. He led the Hokies in scoring average this season and is the school’s career leader in stroke average. As a junior in the 2013-14 season, Vincent became the first Hokie to win three individual tournament titles in a single season.

The field of 312 will participate in 18 holes of stroke play at the U.S. Amateur on both August 11 and 12 before the top 64 players advance to six rounds of match play. The event will conclude with a 36-hole championship match.

Vincent is familiar with Rank. He defeated Rank by one stroke to win the 2014 Players Amateur, earning him an exemption into the 2015 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing PGA TOUR golf tournament on Hilton Head Island.
