Virginia Tech’s Bryce Chalkley and Mikey Moyers are tied for 11th place after two rounds at the 2013 State Open of Virginia. The tournament is being played at the par 71, 7,026 Independence Golf Club in Midlothian, Va.
Chalkley, a rising senior from Richmond, Va., and Moyers, who completed his eligibility in the spring, are at one-under-par 141. Moyers shot a one-under-par 70 on Friday, while Chalkley shot an-even-par 71 in the second round. The duo trails leader Jay Woodson by eight strokes.
Moyers, starting from the 10th tee on Friday, was one-over at the turn, but birdied the second and fourth holes to post his one-under-par score. Chalkley, who also started on the 10th hole on Friday, carded two bogeys and two birdies in his even-par round.
Incoming freshman Joey Lane missed the cut by one stroke. He shot a two-over-par 73 on Friday. Former Tech golfer Aaron Eckstein also missed the cut with a score of 152.
Moyers will tee off at 8:50 a.m., on Saturday and is grouped with PGA professionals Mike Gooden and Ricky Touma. Chalkley will be in the next group out, at 9 a.m., along with PGA professional Faber Jameson and UVa golfer Ji Soo Park.
