Dedicated to its motto,

Ut Prosim

(That I May Serve), Virginia Tech takes a

hands-on, minds-on approach to education, preparing scholars to be leaders in

their fields and communities. Since its founding as a land-grant college in 1872,

Virginia Tech has grown to an enrollment of over 32,000. Nestled in the rolling

mountains of Southwest Virginia, the campus of Virginia Tech has that rare

quality — a major, thriving modern institute of higher learning, living in harmony

with its beautiful surroundings.

The Hokies’ exceptional athletic facilities dominate the horizon as visitors

enter the campus from Southgate Drive. Lane Stadium/Worsham Field, which

seats 65,632 fans, is the home of Tech’s nationally ranked football team that has

appeared in 24 consecutive bowl games. The football team utilizes a state-of-

the-art locker room, which is adjacent to Lane Stadium and opens to the team’s

practice fields and indoor practice facility. Virginia Tech Carilion Court at Cassell

Coliseum houses a 9,847-seat arena as well as athletic offices, locker rooms

and training facilities. The Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center to the east of

Cassell houses the men’s and women’s basketball offices, support areas, locker

rooms and basketball courts.

Tech golfers now have access to the newly completed Willis and Mary

Blackwood Indoor Golf Facility, located on the first floor of Cassell Coliseum.

The area houses two simulators, a putting and chipping green, team locker

rooms, staff offices and a conference room. The student-athletes also have

access to the 7,000 square foot W.A. and Mae Street Olympic Sports Athletic

Performance Center. Here athletes train with free weights under the supervision

and instruction of senior director Terry Mitchell.

Other facilities include Rector Field House, site of an indoor Astroturf

football field and Mondo track; English Field, the home of the baseball team;

the Tech Softball Park; the Johnson-Miller Track Complex; the Soccer Stadium

and Thompson Field, home of the men’s and women’s soccer teams; lacrosse

practice fields; the Christiansburg Aquatic Center, home of the men’s and

women’s swimming teams; the Virginia Tech Golf Course and the Pete Dye

River Course of Virginia Tech, site of the Virginia Tech Golf Team Complex.

The Merryman Center is a two-story building on the west side of

the Jamerson Athletic Center in the heart of the athletic complex. It is

a 40,000-square foot all-purpose facility. The second floor houses an

entranceway to the athletic complex, a classroom area and the 130-seat

McConnell auditorium. The first floor includes a conditioning and weightlifting

complex, a multipurpose gymnasium and an expanded area for sports medicine

and training.
