Well, folks, it’s that time again. Today, we file the final blog of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championships. Another successful year is in the books for the Hokie golfers, with another trip to the national championships for this group.

First of all, let’s give hearty congratulations to Scott Vincent, who last night became the first-ever Virginia Tech golfer to earn first team All-American honors. A truly deserving honor for this outstanding young man. The second and third teams will be announced later this week. I hope that Trevor Cone gets on one of those teams. This is another truly deserving young man.

Big thanks to Jay Hardwick and Brian Sharp for letting me tag along and do these blogs, tweets, video interviews and photo galleries. This program is in the best hands possible with these two gentlemen calling the shots.

I must give a shout out to the parents of these golfers. They are supportive of their children and help make these trips pleasurable. They are all a big part of what we do.

These young men make this all worthwhile. They are, obviously, top-level student-athletes, but are better people. Kind, generous, gracious and respectful, these guys are great representatives of this outstanding university and the Hokie Nation. We should all be proud of them, especially when they are out in public. Oh, and by the way, have you checked out the fact that this team has won five consecutive NCAA Public Recognition Awards, which are awarded each year to teams in all sports which rank in the top 10 percent of the APR in that sport nationally. These guys get it done in the classroom AND on the course.

The lone senior on this team in Bryce Chalkley. Although he has completed his highly successful collegiate golf career, we will have the pleasure of having Bryce back on campus next year, completing his double major. A standout both on the course and in the classroom, Bryce played in every event the team played during his career and finished his senior season as both an All-ACC and All-East Region selection. And I’m sure we will see him on a few academic teams, as well. A true leader for the team, we thank him for what he has meant to this program.

Thanks to Damian Salas, Tom Booth and David Knachel back in the athletics department for their expertise in getting these blogs, galleries and videos posted.

We hope you have enjoyed these blogs, galleries, tweets and videos. With all the weather issues this year, there were a lot of challenges in reporting traditional post-event wrap-ups and we hope these methods helped all our fans follow the exploits of this program through the post-season.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for next year to begin. But these players need some rest and relaxation first. And many will be playing in top-level amateur events this summer. Best of luck to Trevor Cone as he continues his quest to qualify for the U.S. Open and to all of our players who will attempt to qualify for the U.S. Amateur and other elite events.
