Men's Golf: 2014 NCAAs

It’s 8:30 a.m. CT and the Hokies are on the practice range preparing for their one-day postponed opening round in the NCAA Championship. As of now, Tech is slated to begin at the 10th tee, beginning at 10:50 a.m.

The weather is a little cool and overcast at the time. There is a 40 percent chance of rain today, but so far so good. The winds are expected to increase throughout the day. The 10 mph winds of Thursday should be a thing of the past. The first round resumed on time at 7 a.m., so things are moving right along here at Prairie Dunes.

The first thing Coach Hardwick let the players know last night was, there will hopefully be a lot of golf played today. As long as the weather cooperates, they will play golf from sun up to sun down. The NCAA is trying to get in as many holes as possible today, so some teams may actually play 36 holes on Saturday. The NCAA will do everything in its power to complete 54 holes of stroke play. Playing 36 holes is not unusual to collegiate players, as many in-season tournaments include a day with 36 holes. It’s just not very common in the post-season.

There is a link to the live stats on the front page and the men’s golf page of Hokiesports.com. We will also attempt to update Twitter @VT_MGolf as the round progresses. Remember to check back at the end of the day for a complete recap, including a photo gallery and video interview on the men’s golf page.
