What a difference a day makes. Although still a lot of golf to be played here in Auburn, Alabama, the Hokies shot the second-best round of the day and got right back into contention for one of the five advancing spots. The old saying goes “You can’t win a regional on Friday, but you sure can lose one.”

After the round was over, Tech ate a well-deserved lunch and headed up to the practice range for some work. Even though there was a significant improvement today, the coaching staff realizes there is plenty of work to do. Tech hasn’t locked anything yet and nothing will be left to chance.

The team got back to the hotel about 45 minutes ago and will have a team dinner in a little while, then up to the rooms for rest, which at this point of the week is welcomed by all. The guys also have to get some packing done, as the team will check out of the hotel in the morning and drive back to Blacksburg immediately following the round.

Tech will tee off beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT, grouped with Texas and BYU. So an early wake-up call will greet the team, then packing up the van and car and heading to the course.

Some of you saw the tweet congratulating Bryce Chalkley. I have deleted the original and posted a new tweet, as I missed a “zero”. The tweet now reads “Congrats Bryce Chalkley. 6th player in VT history w/10,000 golf strokes. Joins 5 from 2001 NCAA 8th place finish.” My apologizes on the original tweet. Some may say the is a double-edged sword, but by joining Brendon de Jonge, Johnson Wagner, Brian Krusoe, Chris McKeel and Ryan Stinnett, Bryce puts himself in a group that includes the five members of what is arguably the most successful teams in Virginia Tech golf history, the 2001 8^th place NCAA finishing team and the team that advanced to the NCAA finals in 2002. This means that Bryce has played in every event since coming to Virginia Tech, a grand accomplishment.
