We just wanted to update all the Hokie golf fans on the weather in the area and its effect on the NCAA Auburn Regional.
Shortly after Virginia Tech completed its practice round, the anticipated rains arrived. And kept on arriving. Approximately five teams and the individuals were still on the course when practice was suspended. That action also closed the practice range and practice putting greens. Later in the day it was determined that the suspension would last for the rest of the day. Tech returned to the hotel to rest up for Thursday.
At the NCAA coaches meeting late Wednesday afternoon, its was determined that teams that wanted to complete their rounds could do so on Thursday morning, although most elected not to or to just walk the remaining holes.
Weather forecasts for the Auburn area call for upwards of four inches of rain Wednesday and overnight into Thursday morning. A determination has been made that the 8 a.m. CDT Thursday tee times will be delayed a minimum of one hour. The situation will be continuously monitored and this delay could be extended.
The Hokies will prepare in the morning for a 9 a.m. tee time, but will adjust their plans, as more information is available. Follow the Hokies on Twitter at @VT_MGolf for up-to-the-minute information. This blog will also be updated as necessary.
