Tech, Golden Lions meet for the first time
Virginia Tech vs. UAPB Game Notes

Virginia Tech hosts the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in men's basketball in Cassell Coliseum on Saturday afternoon. The game tips off at 3 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN3.

The Hokies enter today’s game 4-3 on the season ... Arkansas-Pine Bluff is 2-6 this season.

Last Time Out: NU 81, VT 79 OT

The Hokies dropped a heart-breaker on Tuesday night, falling to Northwestern, 81-79, in overtime in Cassell Coliseum ... Tech trailed the entire second half untill 55 seconds remaining in regulation, when Seth Allen hit a pair of free throws that sent the game into overtime ... Tech got a final look to tie the game in the extra session, but missed a 15-footer at the buzzer ... Allen led all scorers with 25 points, Justin Bibbs added 17 points and Chris Clarke recorded his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Series Against The Golden Lions

This will be the first meeting in the series between the two schools … The Hokies are 2-1 all-time against current members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Welcome Back Alumni

Today’s game is the featured event around the 2105 Virginia Tech Men’s Basketball Alumni Weekend ... A number of former players are spending the weekend on campus ... The group had a dinner last night and attended shootaround this morning ... There is also a tour of facilities and a post-game reception for the Hokies.

A Freshman Double

Chris Clarke recorded his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds in the Northwestern game ... It’s the first time a Virginia Tech freshman recorded consecutive double-doubles since Jeff Allen in the 2007-08 season ... Allen had 11 points and 12 rebounds in the regular season finale at Clemson and 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first round of the ACC Tournament against Miami.

20-Plus for Allen

Seth Allen scored 25 points in the Northwestern game ... That marks the first time a Hokie has scored 20-or-more points in consecutive games since Adam Smith had 26 points against Miami of Ohio and 22 points against Morgan State last season ... Allen had 23 points in the win over UAB on Nov. 28.

B-2-B OT

The Hokies lost to Northwestern, 81-77, in overtime on Dec. 1 and defeated UAB, 81-77 in overtime on Nov. 28 in Destin ... Prior to that, the last time the Hokies played back-to-back OT games was Feb. 8, 2006, when the Hokies won at Clemson, 75-74, in overtime and lost at Virginia, 81-77, in overtime on Feb. 11, 2006.

It Is Better to Give, A Lot

In the loss to Northwestern, Devin Wilson recorded five assists and just one turnover ... He now has 303 career assists, good for 4.5 assists per game ... Early in his junior season, Wilson is just 13 assists away from entering the top 10 in assists in school history.

New Guys

Seven games into the season, Tech has had nine, 15 points or higher scoring performances ... Of those nine times, eight have been by either Zach LeDay or Seth Allen, each who are new to the Hokies this season ... Justin Bibbs’ 17 points against Northwestern is the only one of the nine not by LeDay or Allen.

Getting There

Entering today’s game, the Hokies lead the nation in free throw attempts and are eighth in free throws made ... Tech is averaging 33.3 attempts and 21.6 makes per game ... Last season, the Hokies averaged 16.9 attempts and 10.8 makes per game.
