In the Hokies’ overtime win over UAB, Chris Clarke grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds en route to his double-double of 10 points and 16 rebounds ... The 16 rebounds are the most by a Hokie since Marshall Wood grabbed 16 rebounds at NC State on Feb. 16, 2013 ... It is also the most rebounds by a Tech freshman since Wood’s performance in Raleigh on that day ... It is also the record for rebounds in an Emerald Coast Classic game.
Doubling Our Pleasure
With his 15 points, 10 rebound performance in the win over UAB, Zach LeDay recorded his fourth double-double of the season ... The last Hokies to record four double-doubles in a single season was Jarell Eddie, with four double-doubles in the 2013-14 season.
A Final Double Note
Zach LeDay and Chris Clarke both recorded double-doubles in the win over UAB ... In doing so, they become the first pair of Hokies to record double-doubles in the same game since C.J. Barksdale (14 points/10 rebounds) and Jarell Eddie (13 points/10 rebounds) pulled the feat against Radford in Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 29, 2013.
Award-Winning Performance
For his play in the tournament, Zach LeDay was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament team ... In the four games, LeDay averaged 18.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game and he had two double-doubles.
Another Big Day for LeDay
Zach LeDay tied a career-high with 26 points and 12 rebounds in the win over NC A&T and, in doing so, extended his double-figure scoring streak to four games ... He recorded his third double-double in the Hokies’ four games this season ... It is the first time a Hokies has had consecutive double-doubles since Jarell Eddie achieved the feat on Nov. 26 (14 points, 10 rebounds against Furman) and 29 (13 points, 10 rebounds vs. Radford), 2013 ... The streak of double figure scoring games moved to six with his play in the Emerald Coast Classic, including a 15 point, 10 rebound performance in the win over UAB, giving him four double-doubles in six games this season.
Really Young Again This Season
The Hokies once again this season field one of the youngest teams in the nation ... According to kenpom.com, Tech is 326 out of 350 NCAA Division I teams in experience, at just 1.10 years per player ... Tech is 14th out of 15 ACC teams in experience ... Tech has just one senior and only one player, junior Devin Wilson, who was on the squad two years ago ... Wilson missed the first three games of the season with a left groin strain.
