Blacksburg, Va. – Virginia Tech head men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams announced the promotion of Lyle Wolf to the position of Director of Student-Athlete Development.
Wolf is in his second year with the Hokies, as he served last season as the assistant to the head coach. Earlier this summer, he took on the duties of the Director of Basketball Administration. He will now take over the duties of Steve Thomas, who recently took a position of Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Richmond.
As Director of Student-Athlete Development, Wolf will handle many of the same duties as in the past, but will take on added responsibilities within the program. Wolf will work more closely with the student-athletes off the court, helping them in all phases of their development.
“Lyle has continued to grow and develop throughout his tenure with us, and when this position was vacated, it became the easiest personnel decision I have had to make thus far in my career,” Williams said. “Because he has risen from the entry level of our industry, his ability to form trustful relationships with student-athletes is fantastic, and that characteristic is vital in this role of helping them mature in all facets of their lives.”
Wolf came to Virginia Tech from Marquette University, where he served in a similar capacity. In the spring of 2014, Wolf received a masters in Sports Leadership from Marquette University. Before his tenure as graduate assistant at Marquette, the Lexington, Kentucky native served as the junior varsity basketball coach at Sayre School for the 2011-12 season.
A 2010 graduate of Transylvania with a degree in business administration, Wolf was a member of the basketball team at the school in 2006-07. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program at East Tennessee State University.
