Hokies close out home stand with Appalachian State
Tech, Mountaineers tip in Cassell at 1 p.m. Saturday

Virginia Tech closes out a season-opening three-game home stand with Appalachian State at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The game will be shown on ESPN3. A reminder that the Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced that it is encouraging its fans who aren’t traveling to Winston-Salem to come to the men’s basketball game at Cassell Coliseum and that it also plans on having the football game on televisions located in the concourse area, thus giving fans the opportunity to keep tabs on two of their favorite teams.

The Hokies enter today’s game 2-0 overall following a 73-63 win over Liberty on Wednesday night in Cassell Coliseum ... Appalachian State is 0-2 on the season, following a 84-65 loss at Furman on Wednesday night.

The Hokies shot 61.0 percent from the floor, including 73.7 percent in the second half ... The game was the opening round of the Cancun Classic.

Series Against The Mountaineers

The Hokies are 7-1 all-time against Appalachian State, with all games being played in Cassell Coliseum … Tech has won six straight in the series, including the most recent meeting, an 87-76, victory in Cassell Coliseum on Nov. 23, 2012 ... The Hokies are 18-2 all-time against schools currently in the Sun Belt Conference ... This is the Mountaineers’ first season in the Sun Belt.

A Great Start

Justin Bibbs scored in double figures in both of his first two collegiate games ... The last Hokie freshman to score in double figures in each of his first two collegiate games was Robert Brown, who scored 12 points in the opener vs. ETSU and 19 points in the win over Monmouth in the 2011-12 season.
