Virginia Tech vs. Miami Game Notes

Virginia Tech faces Miami in the opening round of the 61st ACC Tournament on Wednesday in the Greensboro Coliseum. The game, to be televised live by both ESPN2 and The ACC Network, is set for a 3:30 p.m. tip-off.

About Today’s Game

The Hokies, the 15th seed, are 9-21 on the season and finished 2-16 in ACC action.

The Hurricanes, the 10th seed, are 16-15 overall and finished 7-11 in the ACC.

The winner of today’s game will play seventh seed NC State on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Georgia Tech 62, VT 51

The Hokies lost 62-51, at Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale.

Joey van Zegeren led the Hokies with a career-high 21 points.

Wilson Sets New Standards

Devin Wilson set a new Virginia Tech freshman record in the home loss to Virginia. He now has 143 assists this season, the most ever for a Tech freshman, breaking the old mark of 113, set by Hank Thorns in the 2007-08 season.

Wilson also set a new Tech freshman record with 178 free throw attempts, surpassing the old mark of 164 attempts by Dale Solomon in the 1978-79 season.

Wilson finished the ACC season with 80 assists, breaking the old school mark of 78 assists in an ACC season set by Malcolm Delaney in 2009-10.

Injury Update

Adam Smith (left calf strain), C.J. Barksdale (right ankle) and Cadarian Raines (left ankle) are questionable for today’s game.

Academic Success

The Hokies place four players on the 2014 ACC All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team.

Jarell Eddie was named to the team for the third consecutive season and is joined by teammates Will Johnston, Joey van Zegeren and Trevor Thompson.
