Greensboro, N.C. – Four Virginia Tech players have been named to the 2014 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Men’s Basketball team, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford.
Jarell Eddie, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., earned the honor for the third time. He is joined by Will Johnston, a junior from Midlothian, Va., Joey van Zegeren, a redshirt sophomore from Hoogeveen, The Netherlands and Trevor Thompson, a freshman from Indianapolis, Ind.
The Hokies and Pittsburgh each lead ACC schools with four players each on the 16-man squad. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.
Eddie, a three-year starter for the Hokies, leads the team in scoring (13.4) and rebounds (5.4) and is second in the ACC in three-point field goals made per game (2.5) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.376). This is the first time that Johnston, van Zegeren and Thompson have been named to the team. Thompson is one of five freshmen on the team.
