TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Michael Snaer made a three-point field goal with 2.6 seconds remaining to give #20 Florida State a 48-47 victory over Virginia Tech in the Donald Tucker Center on Thursday night. With the loss, the Hokies fall to 14-12 overall and 3-8 in league play, while the Seminoles improve to 18-7 overall and 9-2 in ACC action.

The Hokies played without senior forward Victor Davila, who missed the game due to a groin injury and freshman forward C.J. Barksdale, who was out with a sprained ankle. Starting post player, sophomore Cadarian Raines, missed most of the second half with cramps, the same ailment that cost sophomore forward Jarell the final 10 seconds of the game.

Tech kept the game close throughout the first half and trailed 25-23 at the intermission. The Hokies then went on a 17-0 run to open the second half and took a 40-25 lead on a jumper by Robert Brown with 14:09 remaining.

The Seminoles were able to cut into the lead the remainder of the game. Eddie hit one of two free throws with 51 seconds remaining, giving the Hokies a 47-45 lead. Tech missed five of their final six free throws, including two with 10.1 seconds remaining. Eddie was fouled on the play, but was unable to shoot the two free throws and Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton chose Brown to shoot the shots. He missed both attempts and Snaer hit the three-pointer with 2.6 seconds remaining to give FSU the 48-47 lead. The Hokies pushed the ball up court, but an Erick Green attempt at the buzzer was off the mark.

Green led all scorers with 18 points. He also had three assists and four steals in the contest. Eddie finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Ian Miller was the only Seminole in double figures, with 11 points. With his 18 points, Green extended his ACC-best streak of consecutive double figure scoring games to 27 contests.

The Hokies committed just seven turnovers in the game, including only two turnovers in the second half. Neither team shot well from the line in the game, as Tech was seven of 16 from the line in the game and FSU made just one of its eight free throw attempts.

The Hokies return to action on Saturday afternoon, as they host Georgia Tech at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on regional sports networks.
