Hokies defeat No. 10 Duke in ACC opener

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech (3-2, 1-0) was the first to find the back of the net through Marissa Davey, Duke responded with a goal of their own several minutes later. The Hokies went on to match the goal 28 seconds later, also scoring the next five goals, Tech never looked back on the way to their first ACC win of the season.
Tristan McGinley scored five goals on the afternoon. McGinley lead the Hokies with five draw controls, also recording her third hat trick of the season.

Hokies lead 10-3
Paige Petty also set a career-high four goals to go along with one draw control and a team-high four ground balls.
Davey, Kendall Welch, Mary Claire Byrne, Emma Harden, Taylor Caskey all found their way onto the scoresheet.
Tech took advantage from its free position opportunities, scoring 8 of 10.
Redshirt senior Meagh Graham made 10 saves in goal on the afternoon, including multiple Duke free position opportunities.
The Hokies scored at least 17 in three consecutive games for the first time in the John Sung era.
Sung has also defeated Duke in back-to-back seasons, In both games Duke was ranked No. 10
UP NEXT: The Hokies are back in the Indoor Practice Facility on Wednesday, Feb. 28 when they take on the George Mason Patriots at 7 p.m.
