February 20, 2017
BLACKSBURG- The Virginia Tech lacrosse team entered the Inside Lacrosse Top 20 poll on Monday. The ranking is the first for the program since March of 2011.
“Obviously its really nice to get the recognition from the media and your peers,” said John Sung. “Its nice to see that your hard work is going noticed. This is just one step of the process to where we would eventually like to go. It keeps us hungry and makes us want to work harder so that we can keep improving every step of the way.”
The Hokies are 3-1 in 2017 and 1-0 in ACC play. After an opening day game against Gardner-Webb that saw Tech win 21-5, the team followed that performance up with a victory against Davidson 13-7. The lone set-back came against the JMU Dukes at Thompson Field.
On Saturday, Tech defeated No. 17 Boston College by a score of 18-12. Tristan McGinley and Kristine Loscalzo led the team with four goals each. Meagh Graham defended the net, making nine huge saves for the Hokies. It was the team’s first ACC victory since 2012, snapping a streak of 27 straight losses in league play
This week the team makes its first road appearance of 2017, playing in Lynchburg, Virginia against the Liberty Flames. On Saturday, Tech welcomes two opponents to Blacksburg for matches. The team will play Old Dominion at 1 p.m. and Radford at 7 p.m.
