ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In its final game of the 2015 season, the Virginia Tech lacrosse team fell at Navy, 19-11, at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon. After a close first half, the Midshipmen distanced themselves late in the first half and never looked back. Megan Will led the Hokies in her final collegiate game with four goals and an assist. Loren Generi paced Navy with five and a school record 15 draws.
The game began with both teams attacking and getting stops, but Will finally broke things open with a Hokie (6-12) goal eight minutes into the game. Navy’s Generi responded less than a minute later, and the two teams would go back and forth scoring until Navy (15-5) took its first lead of the day with under ten minutes remaining until halftime.
Will made it three first-half goals with 7:24 left until the break, but Morgan Young sparked a four-goal run for the Midshipmen that gave them their largest lead of the day. Young put away back-to-back goals in less than 20 seconds to put Navy ahead, and then assisted another to extend the lead.
The Midshipmen took a 10-6 lead into halftime, outshooting Tech 21-13 in the first 30 minutes. Tech struggled to control the draw in the first half, winning just six of the 17.
The Hokies seemed to find a spark at the half as Meagh Graham started things off with a pair of saves, and Kristine Loscalzo and Will put away a pair of early goals on the other end to get Tech back to within two.
Tech scored four of the six goals in the first seven minutes of the new half, but the Midshipmen strung together five straight scores over the span of the next 15 minutes. Gracee Hendrix finally ended the lull for the Hokies, but it would be the only other goal Tech would score.
Cawley Bromley added a pair of assists and a goal for the Hokies, while Meghan Macera played an aggressive game on defense, finishing with six ground balls and four caused turnovers. She also added five draws for Tech, which claimed just eight of the 32 in the game.
Graham made it back-to-back double-digit saves games as she finished with a career-best 14 in the game. She finishes the season with a 5-12 record. Annie Foky picked up the win for Navy in cage and made 10 saves, allowing 10 goals.
