BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech women’s lacrosse team showed off a high-powered offense as it rolled to a 17-4 victory over Old Dominion Friday afternoon at Moseley Field. Tech was led by Meg Bartley who put away a season-best five goals in the win. Ashmore Standing led the Lady Monarchs with three goals.

Connor Carson struck early for Old Dominion (3-1), but the Hokies (3-3) quickly stole the momentum. Jessi Thon put Tech on the board just over a minute after the opening score, and three more Hokies added goals over the next five minutes to force an Old Dominion timeout.

The Hokies kept rolling despite the break in action, as Bartley buried a pass from Megan Will for her first score of the day 30 seconds after the timeout. Standing finally broke up the six-goal Tech run with a free position goal near the midway point in the half, but the Hokies were not fazed.

Jack Boissonneault picked up the loose ball after a stop by Tech goalie Meagh Graham and immediately found Meghan Macera who took the ball straight to goal to reignite the Hokie offense and put Tech up 7-2. The Hokies tacked on three more goals to close the first half, including two from Will, going into the break with a 10-2 lead.

Freshman Emma Harden got things going for Tech in the second half with a pair of free position goals in the opening five minutes of play. It was Standing, again, who broke up the Hokie rally and got the difference back under 10 goals.

A Tech goal from Maddie Doan at the 20-minute mark and Standing’s third score of the game teetered with the running clock, but Will put the Hokies back up by 10 with under ten minutes to play. Bartley closed out the game on a three-goal run of her own, teaming up with Will on her final score.

Tech finished the game with the 35-20 shooting edge, and dominated the draw in the game, 19-4. Bartley matched her career high with 10 draws in the game.

Will put away four goals for the Hokies, adding two assists, for her tenth straight game of three-or-more goals, dating back to last season.

Graham played the full 60 minutes in cage for the Hokies and made 10 saves. Karen Hayde earned the decision for the Lady Monarchs, despite on playing nearly 19 minutes. She made the start and had three saves in the appearance. She was replaced in the first half by Maggi Buckley, who allowed eight goals and made five stops.

The Hokies will remain at home to close out the weekend on Sunday against Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m. Due to the winter weather, this game will also be played at Moseley Field.
