Scouting Boston College

Boston College has a quick turnaround this week as it moved to 10-4 on the season and 2-4 in conference play after falling at No. 16 Virginia Thursday night. Prior to the loss, the Eagles put together back-to-back wins after topping No. 8 Duke on the road and Holy Cross at home. Three of BC’s four losses on the year came to the nation’s top three teams by a total of just four goals.

Covie Stanwick and Mikaela Rix lead the BC offense and entered the week with 23 and 33 goals, respecitvely. Stanwick ranks amongst the top in the nation in points and assists, while Rix ranks in the top 25 in scoring.

Emily Mata has handled the goalie duties for the Eagles this season and boasts the team’s record. She entered the week of play with 51 saves a .329 save percentage.

Hokie Notes

-- Junior Meg Bartley set a new career and team season high against Liberty on Wednesday, scoring six goals in the win.

-- Junior Megan Will broke onto Tech’s all-time scoring list with four goals against Coastal Carolina and the points list with three goals at No. 1 North Carolina. She scored the 100th goal of her career at Old Dominion.

-- Junior Cawley Bromley had a career game at William & Mary, scoring three goals and finishing with four points and made it back-to-back four-point games against Coastal.

-- Against No. 6 Duke, the Hokie defense forced the Blue Devils into a season-high 18 turnovers with their average of 10 coming in the first half, also holding them to a season-low four first-half goals.

-- Entering the week, three Hokies rank among the top 30 in the nation in their respective categories. Junior Meg Bartley ranks the highest of the group, tied for 8th in the country averaging 5.38 draws per game.

-- Redshirt senior Julia Heaps set a career high with five goals and seven points in the season opener at James Madison.

-- Redshirt senior Julia Heaps became the second Hokie on the 2014 roster to rank among the all-time best as her three assists against High Point broke her onto the list.

-- Junior Meg Bartley is the only player to have scored in every game so far this season.

-- In this week’s polls, seven of Tech’s opponents are ranked nationally, with another receiving votes.

-- Seniors Julia Heaps, Kelly Naslonski, Lindsay Roche and Becca Niles captain the Hokies this season.

-- Tech welcomed 10 freshmen this season, as well as two new assistant coaches.

Last Time Out

The Hokies got the week out to a big start with a huge, 18-7 win over Liberty in a midweek matchup, before stumbling in conference play against No. 3 Syracuse. In its final weekend home game of the year, Tech honored its four seniors - Kelly Naslonski, Lindsay Roche, Becca Niles and Julia Heaps - prior to the game against the Orange. The four team captains represent a group that has tallied 35 wins and never seen a losing season.

Against Liberty, the Hokies dominated from start to finish. Tech put away two goals early on, but after the Flames got on the board to make it a 2-1 game, it took off, scoring eight unanswered goals. The run saw both Megan Will and Meg Bartley hit the hat trick mark as each added two goals in the offensive surge.

Tech took a 12-2 lead into the half and finished the game outshooting the Flames 36-16. Bartley finished with a career-high six goals, and neared a career mark with seven draws. Will also added five goals for the Hokies.

The Nation’s Elite

Entering the week of play, three Hokies rank among the top players in the nation in their respective categories. Junior Meg Bartley boasts the highest ranking, as she is tied for 8th with a 5.38 draws average. Junior Megan Will is 15th in the country with 53 points this year, while also ranking 23rd with 4.08 points per game and 19th with 36 goals. Sophomore Meghan Macera has moved into the top 30 this week in ground balls per game, as her 2.69 average is good for 27th in the country.

Record Watch

Junior Meg Bartley has already broken into the all-time top 10, and ranks third with 182 career draws. She has also made her second notch on the single-seasons draw list, ranking second with 69 last year. She is on pace this season to set a new all-time single season record.

Redshirt senior Julia Heaps broke into the all-time assists list against High Point earlier this year. She currently ranks sixth all-time with 43.

Junior Megan Will’s 42 goals last season landed her on the single-season scoring list, ranking seventh. She broke into the all-time career scoring list against Coastal Carolina and is currently 8th all-time with 108 career goals and 144 career points. Will needs just one asssit to crack the top-10.
