Scouting Boston College
Boston College wrapped up the regular season with an 11-6 record and finished third in the ACC with a 3-2 record. The Eagles are currently riding a seven-game winning streak into the post season that began at the end of March with back-to-back conference wins over Virginia and Duke. Boston College has yet to drop a contest in the month of April.
Leading the Eagles offense is Covie Stanwick, who paces the team with 52 goals and 22 assists. Stanwick ranks among the top players in the nation in both points and scoring. She is currently second in the conference, averaging 3.06 goals and 4.35 points per game.
Mikaela Rix is second on the team in scoring with 43 goals, while her 61 draws this year have helped Boston College rank second in the league, winning 13.71 draws per game. Kate McCarthy has helped lead the Eagles’ defensive unit grabbing 29 ground balls and causing 22 turnovers.
In goal for Boston College will be Emily Mata, who boasts the team’s record as well as a .344 save percentage.
Hokie Notes
-- The Hokies are in search of their first post season win since joining the ACC for the 2005 season. Tech hasn’t claimed a conference tournament victory since winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament in 1999.
-- In each of the past two seasons, Tech has knocked off a ranked conference opponent (2011 - No. 16 BC, 2012 - No. 7 UVa), and will look to keep that streak alive against the Eagles.
-- The Hokies have two players that lead the league in their respective categories as sophomore Meg Bartley wins 4.53 draws per game and redshirt senior Christina Patten causes 1.40 turnovers per game.
-- Until the Virginia game, senior Brooke Martin was the only Hokie to score in every game this season. She has scored in 14 of the team’s 15 outings.
-- Sophomore Megan Will has tallied four or more points in eight games this season, including two six-goal performances.
-- The game against Boston College marks the 16th game of the season for the Hokies, this is the fewest number of games Tech has played since playing 15 games in 2005, the first year the program joined the ACC.
