Scouting Virginia

The Cavaliers enter the midweek game at 7-8 on the year, 0-4 in the ACC, while boasting the No. 16 ranking in the country. They are coming off of back-to-back losses at home last week, falling most recently to Johns Hopkins, 9-8. Wednesday will be Senior Night for the Cavaliers, who are just 2-5 this year at home.

Casey Bocklet leads the Virginia attack this year with 31 goals and 17 assists, while Ashlee Warner isn’t far behind with 29 goals and 16 assists. On the defensive end, Courtney Swan has grabbed 20 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers, while also winning 56 draws.

In cage for the Cavaliers has been Liz Colgan, who has started the last seven games and holds a 3-4 record as well as a .458 save percentage.

Scouting Maryland

Maryland will arrive in Blacksburg looking to finish the regular season without a loss, sitting at 16-0 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. The Terps last played on Sunday and topped Dartmouth, 17-8 on the Senior Day.

Alex Aust, this week’s ACC Offensive Player of the Week, leads the Terps with 53 goals and 43 assists this year, while also adding 20 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Katie Schwarzmann has also helped lead the charge for Maryland, putting away 46 goals, assisting 18 more, also causing 14 turnovers. Taylor Cummings has dominated the draw for the Terps, winning 73.

In goal for Maryland will be this week’s ACC Defensive Player of the Week Kasey Howard. Howard boasts an 8.48 GAA as well as a .443 save percentage, making 98 stops.

ACC Tournament

This week will conclude league play around the Atlantic Coast Conference. The conference tournament will be held at North Carolina in Chapel Hill and begin on Thursday, April 25 with two quarterfinal games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Play will continue Friday, April 26 with semifinal games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The tournament will conclude Sunday, April 28 with the championship game at 5 p.m. The men’s tournament will also be hosted byt the Tar Heels the same weekend.

Seeding for the tournament will be released following the Tech-Maryland game Saturday afternoon.

Running with the Best

The Hokies are among the top teams in the conference in offensive production, trailing only Maryland and Duke averaging 17.15 points per game.

On the defensive end, the Hokies are second in the league averaging 15.69 ground balls per game. Two Hokies lead the league in their respective categories as Meg Bartley averages 4.92 draws per game and Christina Patten causes 1.62 turnovers per game. Bartley is the only Hokie to rank nationally as her draws average puts her at 12th in the country.
