CONWAY, S.C. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team wrapped up a four-game road stretch with its second-straight win after taking down Coastal Carolina, 18-8, at Brooks Stadium Saturday afternoon. The overcast sky and mucky field did nothing to slow the Hokie attack as Megan Will, Brooke Martin and Kelly Naslonski all finished the game with four points. Four players scored for the Chanticleers, each with two goals.

The Hokies (2-2) wasted no time getting things going, scoring just 17 seconds into the game as Libby Rosebro put it away on a break after the opening draw. Coastal Carolina (0-3) was quick to respond, less than a minute later when Lily Yednock buried a free position shot to even it up.

Tech responded with four more goals in the opening 10 minutes of the game, as Martin netted two free position shots, Jessi Thon took a pass from Meg Bartley straight to the goal after the pair forced a turnover, and Meghan Macera worked her way in for her first goal of the year.

On a fast break down the field, defender Charlotte Marsh dumped the ball off to Cawley Bromley who put away a shot from the left side to keep things rolling for the Hokies, and Bartley and Will each added a score.

Midway through the half, Tech’s starting goalie Alex Gale was replaced by fellow senior Alexis Carey as the Hokies put away nine goals before the Chanticleers could respond.

Paige Timberg ended the Tech run with back-to-back goals for Coastal. The Chanticleers tacked on two more scores late in the half, but Martin and Will lengthened the Hokie lead with a goal apiece in the final two minutes to give Tech the 12-5 lead heading into the locker room.

Tech outshot the Chanticleers 22-10 in the opening period, also claiming the 11-7 draws edge.

The Hokies picked up right where they left off, starting the new half with five goals in the opening 11 minutes. It was Rosebro again that started things off, this time burying one 37 seconds into play.

The Hokies out hot Coastal Carolina 31-17 in the game and kept the draws edge, 18-10. Martin led the Hokies with four goals, while Will put away three and assisted another and Naslonski scored two goals and added two assists. Bromley also made a big impact with a goal and two assists.

Tech saw a true team effort against the Chanticleers with all 31 players on the roster seeing field time. All three goalies checked in for the Hokies with Gale playing 19 minutes and allowing just one goal, Carey making two saves and allowing four goals in 20 minutes of play, and Hannah Sieger allowing three goals in 20 minutes of action.

Tech will return to the field Wednesday, Feb. 27 for its home opener against nearby James Madison at 6 p.m.
