Lacrosse announces 2011 newcomers
Eight freshmen will join the Hokies next season.

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team has announced its freshman class for the upcoming season: Andrea Ebeling, Taylor Landry, Sammi Mosketti, Becca Niles, Lindsay Roche, Sydney Taylor, Morgan Toland and Kelly Naslonski will join the Hokies for the 2011 outing as interim head coach Megan Burker will embark on her first season as Tech’s new leader.

“This freshman class has the ability to make a big impact on our program both on and off the field,” Burker said. “They are a mature group and have the athletic ability to push our training to the next level. I am excited to be here to see their growth throughout the year. We will look to them to provide a lot of energy and enthusiasm to our team and help bring a successful season to Virginia Tech.”

Ebeling, a New Albany, Ohio, native, joins the Hokies after winning four letters at New Albany High School. Ebeling helped her team to three state championship titles, while also earning Academic All-America honors as a senior. A four-time Academic All-OCC and All-OCC first team member, Ebeling also played four years of club lacrosse with the Midwestern Force.

As the team’s only foreign player, Landry hails from Whitby, Ontario, Canada, and brings a wealth of experience to this year’s squad. The midfielder has spent time playing for Team Canada as she prepares for the u-19 World Cup in August 2011. She competed for Edge Lacrosse and the Blue Knights club team, while she also captained her Sinclair Secondary School team as a junior and senior.

Mosketti joins this year’s team after winning four letters at Fallston High School in Maryland. The defender helped her team to a state, region and division championship in 2009, while also earning First Team All-County and US Lacrosse All-America honors in her senior season. Mosketti, who was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the president of the Spanish National Honor Society, played for the North East Maryland Select team in 2010. Mosketti will join her sister Amanda on the team.

Another Ohio native, Niles comes to Blacksburg from Columbus, Ohio, where she won three letters at Upper Arlington High School. Niles helped her team to the state championship game in her final two seasons and earned First Team OCC, All-State and All-District honors throughout her career. She was also named Best Midfielder as a senior. Niles was a member of the Midwestern Force club team.

Roche comes to Tech from Sykesville, Md., and played three years of varsity lacrosse at Century High School. Roche was named to the All-County and All-Conference second teams as a senior. The National Merit Scholar played club ball for Check-Hers in 2010.

Taylor joins the Hokies after winning three letters at Patterson Mill High School. The Baltimore, Md., native was a two-time First Team All-County honoree, as well as a First Team All-Harford selection. An eight-year member of the Sky Walkers Blue, Taylor was named a Maryland Scholar Student.

Toland, a Cockeysville, Md., native, won three letters at St. Paul’s School for Girls. After serving as team captain her senior year, Toland was named an IAAM All-Star and Baltimore Metro Team One member. Toland was a member of the National Japanese Honor Society and was a yearly honor roll student. Toland also played club lacrosse for ROME for the six years.

Naslonski joins the Hokies from Ward Melville High School, where she won four letters for lacrosse. As a senior, Naslonski served as a team captain and was named a 2010 US Lacrosse High School All-American. A two-time Division I All-County Honorable Mention, Naslonski was a Scholar Athlete all four years. Naslonski also played four years of club ball for Long Island Express.

The Hokies will begin fall ball at the end of the month as preparation for the upcoming season. The fall season will serve as the first chance for the team’s new members to compete at the college level and work with their new teammates.
