BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team earned one of its best wins of the season as the offense came alive to top the Davidson Wildcats, 22-8. A season high 12 different players registered a goal, as Ryan Rotanz led the way with four scores. For the Wildcats, Jen Crawford and Haley Cook each scored two goals to lead the team.

Tech (3-7) got things going early, scoring three goals in under a minute and five in the first nine minutes, including two from Rotanz to get out to an early lead. Davidson (4-6) would get on the board in the ninth minute but the Hokies tacked on two in a row immediately after, courtesy of sophomore Jessica Nonn.

After the Wildcats scored their second goal to make the game 7-2, Tech went on a six-goal run over the next 10 minutes. In the stretch, junior Allie Emala buried two consecutive goals on very similar plays, as both goals were assisted by junior Caitlyn Wier.

The Hokie offense kept the wheels turning as they headed into the halftime break with a commanding 16-4 lead.

Out of the intermission, Davidson was able to slow the Hokies’ continuous scoring, not allowing them to get on the board again until 13 minutes into the half. During that stretch, the Wildcats started a run of their own as three different players scored.

Freshman Kate Sistare broke up the Wildcat streak with her third goal of the year off a pass from junior Shannon Bone. Minutes later, the Wildcats would score their final goal of the game, which was followed by five more Hokie goals to close out the game.

Freshman Alex Gale earned the start against the Wildcats, making a career-high 11 saves on the day, while Michelle Pav manned the pipes for Davidson and made 10 saves.

The Hokies hit the road again this weekend as they travel to the other side of the state to take on Old Dominion on Saturday, March 27, at 1 p.m.
