NEW BRITIAN, Conn. – The Virginia Tech lacrosse team picked up its second win of the year and first win on the road as they took down Central Connecticut State, 16-4. Caitlyn Wier and Allie Emala led the powerful Hokie offense with three goals apiece while Betsy Vendel paced the Blue Devil attack with three goals.

Tech got off to a hot start, scoring two goals right away as Liz Carpenter and Wier each found the back of the net and Dylan Garner earned an assist on Carpenter’s goal. The Blue Devils got on the board minutes later when Ashley Perkoski connected with Ali Roche for the score.

The Hokies would not allow the game to stay close for long, going on what would be a six-goal run over the next ten minutes. Wier assisted Emala’s goal that got the run started and later buried two goals of her own in the stretch.

Vendel, the leading scorer for the Blue Devils this season, was able to tack on two more and break up the Tech run, but the Hokies would match the two additional scores with two of their own as Shannon Bone and Kate Sistare scored their first goals of the game.

The second half looked much like the start of the game as Jessica Nonn extended her scoring streak to six games on a pass from Wier and Emala tacked on her second of the game. Vendel added another for the Blue Devils to make the game 12-4 with just over 23 minutes remaining.

The Hokies added four more scores to close out the slower-paced second half. Highlighting the short run was Garner, who scored her second goal of the game and assisted Emala’s third score. Sistare also tacked on another and Emile Hunter got on the board as well.

Alexis Carey earned the start against the Blue Devils after an outstanding performance at George Washington. Carey finished the day making three saves in the first half, while Alex Gale made two saves in her 30 minutes played in the second half. For Central Connecticut, Erin Delacey manned the goal and made 14 save in 60 minutes played.

The Hokies will return to action on Saturday, March 13 as they will begin conference play with a game at Boston College. The game will begin at Noon and will also be the first conference game for the Eagles.
