Hokies Set to Strut Their Stuff for NFL Scouts at Pro Day

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech will conduct its annual Pro Day for NFL coaches, scouts and personnel men on Wednesday. All 32 teams are anticipated to attend. A total of 14 members from last year’s squad, including 11 seniors are set to participate, in addition to three underclassmen who have declared early for the 2018 NFL Draft which will be conducted April 26-28 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Following weigh-in and measurements, the bench press, broad jump and vertical jump will take place in the Hokies’ weight room before on-field drills and the 40-yard dash take place in the Virginia Tech Indoor Practice Facility. Seven Hokies received invites to Indianapolis for the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine. Seniors WR Cam Phillips, CB Greg Stroman CB Brandon Facyson and G Wyatt Teller are represented the Hokies along with S Terrell Edmunds, LB Tremaine Edmunds and DT Tim Settle. All but Phillips were able to participate in testing and on-field drills at Lucas Oil Stadium. Terrell Edmunds has already earned his degree from Virginia Tech.

Other graduating seniors set to attend include: WR James Clark, LB Andrew Motuapuaka, S Deon Newsome, LB/S Anthony Shegog, K Joey Slye and LS Colton Taylor.

Below is additional information on the seven Hokies who participated in the NFL Scouting Combine, in addition to highlights from Indianapolis.

LB Tremaine Edmunds
Projected as a consensus first-round pick, and by some as a potential Top 10 selection, Edmunds enjoyed his second straight 100-tackle campaign for the Hokies in 2017 as he led the team with 109 tackles (60 solo) tackles for loss (14), sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (3). A third-team All-American and first-team All-ACC selection by the conference’s coaches and media, helped anchor a Virginia Tech defense that tied for the lowest total in the Power Five by permitting a mere 21 Red Zone scores. Tech also allowed three shutouts, the most in the nation, while ranking fourth in scoring defense at 14.8 ppg.

S Terrell Edmunds
A three-year contributor for the Hokies, Edmunds played in 37 games (31 starts) accumulating 182 tackles (90 solo), 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 14 pass break ups, six interceptions two quarterback hurries and one blocked kick. A third-team All-ACC selection and a second-team All-ACC selection by Phil Steele and the Associated Press, Edmunds recorded a career long 55-yard interception return against Delaware.

CB Brandon Facyson
Facyson racked up five pass breakups and 2.0 tackles for loss last season while helping lead a secondary that permitted an FBS-low 48.6 completion percentage. Last season, Facyson passed Brandon Flowers and Antone Exum in career passes defended since 1987. He has 44 career PDs. He participated in the East-West Shrine Game following the season. The Georgia native was a key reason the Hokies led the nation in opponent completion percentage (48.60%) and ranked second in the nation in third-down defense (26.2%).

WR Cam Phillips
Phillips departs Tech as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (236) and receiving yards (3,027). The Laurel, Maryland product was a first-team All-ACC selection after leading the Hokies and ranking fifth in the ACC with 71 receptions. His 964 receiving yards ranked third in the league, while his seven TD catches tied for third. His 14 receptions at East Carolina this year broke the Tech’s single-game record for catches.

Phillips didn’t participate in testing or on-field drills in Indianapolis.

DT Tim Settle
Settle had an outstanding sophomore campaign, tying second on the team in tackles for loss with 12.5 after contributing as role player for the Hokies in 2016. A first-team All-ACC selection by Phil Steele and a second-team selection by the associated press, the Manassas, Virginia native tallied a career high 36 tackles and 4.0 sacks on the season.

CB Greg Stroman
Stroman had a strong senior campaign, finishing the season first on the team and tied for second in the ACCin both pass breakups (11) and interceptions (4). With the help of Stroman and the rest of the Tech secondary, the Hokies finished the season second in the nation in third-down defense (26.2%). Stroman also finished second in the nation with 397 punt return yards, while adding a pair of punt return TDs. With his three non-offensive touchdowns (1 INT/2 PR), Stroman moved into second in Tech history with six career return scores, trailing only behind DeAngelo Hall (7). He participated in the East-West Shrine Game following the season.

G Wyatt Teller
Teller anchored a Virginia Tech offensive line that permitted only 23.0 sacks on the season. He started in all 13 games at left guard and started 24 consecutive games, the longest streak on the Tech offense. Pro Football Focus honored Teller on their ACC Team of the Week four times last season. The Bealeton, Virginia native was the runner-up for the ACC’s Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is presented to the conference’s most outstanding blocker. He was named to the All-ACC Bowl Team of ESPN.com after helping Tech pile up 248 rushing yards (5.0 avg.) in the Camping World Bowl. Teller enjoyed a strong week of practice at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.
