Trio of Tech signees representing Team USA in U-19 International Bowl IX

BLACKSBURG – A trio of 2018 Virginia Tech signees, Amarni Chatman, Quincy Patterson and Keshon Artis, are currently practicing in Texas in preparation for International Bowl IX on Friday. The trio of Hokies are representing the U.S. Under-19 National Team against Football Canada’s Under-19 National Team. The game will be held at 9 p.m. ET on Jan. 19 at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys and college football’s Goodyear Cotton Bowl.

Team USA is coached by Elijah Brooks, who serves as head coach at DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland. DeMatha has sent several notable players to Virginia Tech over the years, including WR Cam Phillips, who concluded his career as Tech’s all-time leader in receptions (236) and receiving yardage (3,027).

International Bowl IX features 24 high school- and middle school-aged teams across eight nations on three continents. U.S. National Teams will compete against teams representing Canada, Japan, Mexico and the Nordic region, comprised of players and coaches from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. As a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee and the sport’s national governing body, USA Football manages U.S. National Teams for international competition.

Armani Chatman
Athlete 6’0”, 173 lbs.

Bishop Sullivan Catholic

Chatman led the Crusaders to a 6-5 record this past fall, and helped them to a 51-14 win over Riverdale Baptist by scoring four touchdowns to close the season. The Crusaders finished the fall ranked second in the state, according to MaxPreps.com, under the watch of head coach Chris Scott. Before transferring to Bishop Sullivan Catholic, Chatman played at Bayside High School for head coach Jon White where he hauled in 26 catches for 352 yards and five touchdowns in 2016.

Quincy Patterson II

Solorio Academy

Patterson played for head coach Matthew Erlenbaugh at Solorio Academy in Chicago. This past summer, Patterson was the quarterback MVP at Nike’s The Opening Regional en route to earning an invitation to participate in Elite 11, the nation’s premier quarterback competition, in Beaverton, Oregon. As a junior at Solorio Academy, Patterson threw for 1,359 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,146 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Keshon Artis
Linebacker
5’11”, 227 lbs

Oscar Smith

Artis was coached by Scott Johnson at Oscar Smith High School, where he was the 2017 Southeastern District Defensive Player of the Year. He was a two-time first team all-state linebacker and the 2016 6A South Region Player of the Year and finished his senior season with 103 tackles, 15.0 sacks, 39 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and two pass break ups. He also ran track for Oscar Smith.
