Tremaine Edmunds earns spot on AP All-America Team

BLACKSBURG – Junior LB Tremaine Edmunds added another accomplishment to his already decorated 2017 season, earning a spot on The Associated Press All-America Team as a third-team selection. Edmunds also merited another All-America second-team pick, this time from USA Today, marking the third different media outlet that’s given him that distinction.

The Butkus Award finalist had already earned All-America second-team honors from both The Athletic and SB Nation. On Sunday evening he was in Richmond, Virginia as a finalist for the Dudley Award presented annually to the top FBS or FCS player in the state.

Edmunds turned in his second straight 100-tackle season for the Hokies and currently ranks sixth in the conference with 102 total tackles. His 14 tackles for loss rank third among ACC linebackers and eighth overall in the ACC. Edmunds, who leads the Hokies in tackles, TFL, sacks (5.5) and forced fumbles (3), helps anchor a Virginia Tech defense that paces the FBS with 16 Red Zone scores allowed and three shutouts. He earned ACC Linebacker of the Week honors following a 10-0 win at Virginia (11/24).

Edmunds and the Hokies will conclude the 2017 season in the Camping World Bowl against Oklahoma State on Dec. 28 in Orlando.
