RICHMOND – Three Tech players represented the Hokies at the Dudley Award Banquet in Richmond on Sunday evening. Junior LB Tremaine Edmunds was one of three finalists for the Dudley Award, presented by the Touchdown Club of Richmond to the top FBS or FCS player in the state of Virginia. His older brother Terrell was there to support him, along with their mother, Cookie, and their grandmother.
“It was special to be able to share this evening with my parents and my brother Terrell,” the youngest of the three Edmunds brothers said. “I’d also like to congratulate Cam and Greg for also being honored. I’m glad we could all represent Virginia Tech well. Even though our coaches and other teammates couldn’t be there, they all played a large part in our success this season and I can’t thank them enough.”
The Edmunds brothers had the opportunity to meet Virginia native and coaching icon, Bobby Ross, who was one of the presenters at the event. Ross shared the story of how he recruited their father, Ferrell, to the University of Maryland while he was the head coach of the Terrapins.

PR Greg Stroman was named Specialist of the Year at the event. An ACC honorable mention pick as a punt returner and a first-team All-ACC selection at cornerback, Stroman’s 384 punt return yards ranks second in the FBS, and he’s returned two punts for touchdowns, tied for the most in the ACC. The senior’s 91-yard punt return for a touchdown vs. North Carolina (10/21) is the longest for an ACC returner in 2017 and was the second-longest in Lane Stadium history. Stroman was joined by his parents and grandparents at the event.

Although academic commitments prevented Phillips from attending, he was recognized as the top FBS or FCS receiver in Virginia. A first-team All-ACC selection, he ranks fourth in the ACC in both receptions (71) and receiving yards (964). Tech’s all-time leader in receptions (236) and receiving yards (3,027), Phillips is tied for second in the ACC with seven touchdown catches and ranks third with five 100-yard receiving games. His 189 receiving yards at East Carolina (9/16) are the most of any ACC player this season.
