Tremaine Edmunds named ACC Linebacker of the Week

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds has been named ACC Linebacker of the Week after posting nine tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in a 10-0 victory over Virginia in the Commonwealth Clash, the conference office announced Monday.

Edmunds, one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, was Tech’s top tackler for the fifth time this season, the most on the team, and his two sacks of Virginia QB Kurt Benkert was a personal best. Of his nine tackles, three went for a loss and eight were made after a gain of three yards or less.

The Danville, Virginia native helped the Lunch Pail Defense allow only five yards on the ground in its third shutout of the season, the most in the FBS. He now ranks sixth in the ACC with 102 tackles and eighth with 14.0 tackles for loss.

It’s Edmunds’ second career ACC weekly honor after he racked up 10 tackles, 2.0 TFL and 1.0 sack last season vs. Miami (10/20/16).
