BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech junior LB Tremaine Edmunds has been named a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, an honor bestowed to the nation’s best linebacker.
Edmunds leads the Hokies and ranks ninth in the ACC with 68 total tackles. He’s also tied for second in the conference with two forced fumbles and has racked up 6.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. The Danville, Virginia native is in contention for this prestigious award for the first time.
Selection for the Butkus Award is handled by a panel of 51 coaches, recruiters, scouts and journalists who vote separately and confidentially.
Finalists in both divisions will be announced on Nov. 20, and winners will be announced on or before Dec. 5.
Edmunds is also a quarterfinalist for the Lott Impact Trophy and is a candidate for their Player of the Week honor after posted a team-high 10 tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss and a pass breakup in Virginia Tech’s 24-3 win over Duke.
