P Oscar Bradburn awarded honorary Beamer No. 25 vs. North Carolina

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced Thursday that freshman punter Oscar Bradburn has earned the distinction of wearing Frank Beamer’s No. 25 jersey for this Saturday’s homecoming game against North Carolina.

This weekend’s game will mark the first time the Sydney, Australia native has received this prestigious honor and will be only the second time a true freshman has received it. Thanks to Bradburn, Tech ranks third in the ACC with a 41.7-yard net punting average. The Hokies have also allowed a mere four punt return yards on the season.

He is also second in the ACC in fair catches forced (16). Bradburn owns eight punts of 50+ yards on the season, in addition to nine punts inside the 20.

At the beginning of last season, head coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams excellence he spawned for the Hokies.

Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times wrote about Blackburn’s journey to Blacksburg in today’s paper.
