Hokies to wear Vegas ribbon on helmets at Boston College

Tech to honor many individuals impacted by Oct. 1 tragedy in Las Vegas

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech’s football team will wear a special decal on their helmets for Saturday’s game to show their solidarity with the many individuals impacted by the shootings in Las Vegas on Oct. 1. The Hokies will play at 7:15 p.m. at Boston College in a contest televised by ESPN2.

The Virginia Tech community grieves along with the many families whose lives have been forever impacted by this senseless act of violence. This small gesture by our football team honors all of those lives who have been impacted, as well as the many who acted so selflessly to aid strangers and prevent more loss of life.

Specifically, the Hokies wish to acknowledge the memories of the victims and their families. Additionally, the Virginia Tech community also recognizes the many first responders, military personnel, doctors, nurses and ordinary citizens who exhibited courage, bravery and extraordinary heroism in the face of unspeakable violence.

Virginia Tech knows the pain of tragedy after 32 lives were lost on our campus on April 16, 2007. The Hokies would also like to express their solidarity with the UNLV community during this trying time. Current UNLV Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois served as Deputy AD at Virginia Tech prior to her appointment at UNLV earlier this year.
