CB Greg Stroman awarded honorary Beamer No. 25 for third time

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente announced Thursday that senior CB Greg Stroman has earned the distinction of wearing Frank Beamer’s No. 25 jersey for Saturday’s game against Boston College. Stroman is the first Tech player to earn this honor three times.

This weekend’s game will mark the first time any player has been awarded the No. 25 twice in one season. The Bristow, Virginia, native wore the Beamer No. 25 came earlier this season at East Carolina, registering his sixth career interception in that contest.

Stroman’s three career punt return TDs are two shy of the Tech career record of five owned by DeAngelo Hall (2001-03). Stroman needs six more punt returns to overtake Eddie Royal (111) for second in VT annals behind only John Ludlow (135). Royal (1,296) owns the Tech career mark for punt return yards. Stroman currently has 870 punt return yards and needs only two more to overtake Andre’ Davis (872) for second. Over his last 17 games, Stroman has returned 42 punts and scored three TDs, a ratio of one TD per every 14.0 returns.

At the beginning of last season, head coach Justin Fuente announced that a special teams player of the week would be selected to wear the No. 25 as a tribute to Coach Beamer and his legacy of special teams excellence he spawned for the Hokies.
