No. 16 Hokies head to Boston College for first ACC road game of 2017
Tech is 4-0 all-time following a loss under Fuente

BLACKSBURG – No. 16 Virginia Tech looks to return to its winning ways this weekend as the Hokies head to Boston College for their first ACC road contest of 2017. The game can be seen on ESPN2 at 7:15 p.m., the first night game in Chestnut Hill since 2014.

VIRGINIA TECH VISITS BOSTON COLLEGE
• Virginia Tech (4-1) and Boston College (2-3) will renew their rivalry that dates back to the days of the BIG EAST.
• Virginia Tech is coming off a 31-17 loss to No. 2 Clemson (9/30), while BC registered a 28-8 win vs. Central Michigan (9/30). Tech was 3-1 in ACC road games in 2016.
• BC suffered a 34-7 loss at Clemson (9/23) in a game that was tied 7-7 entering the fourth quarter.
• The Hokies have won seven of the last nine games in the series including a 49-0 decision at Lane Stadium (9/17/16).
• Tech won its last visit to Chestnut Hill by a 26-10 margin (10/31/15).
• Justin Fuente owns a perfect 4-0 record in games immediately following a loss at VT & is 8-2 in post-loss games dating back to the 2014 season at Memphis.
• Tech will enjoy a bye following the Boston College contest before returning home to face UNC (10/21).
QB JOSH JACKSON AMONG TOP FRESHMEN PASSERS
• QB Josh Jackson (159.3) ranks second among FBS freshmen with only Georgia’s Jake Fromm (159.6) owning a better passer rating.
• Jackson leads all Power Five freshmen QBs with 1,378 passing yards and 12 TDs.
• Jackson ranks third in the ACC in passer rating, is fourth in total offense (307.0) and fifth in passing yards per game (275.6).
• Only Louisville QB Lamar Jackson (13) has more TD passes in the ACC than Jackson (12).
VIRGINIA TECH-BOSTON COLLEGE: INSIDE THE SERIES
• Saturday marks the 26th game between Virginia Tech and Boston College with the Hokies leading the all-time series, 17-8.
• Tech’s 49-0 win over the Eagles last season was the largest margin of victory by either team in the all-time series.
• The 49-point win was the largest by Tech in an ACC game since a 45-point win at Duke (45-0, 9/10/05) and a 44-point win at home vs. Georgia Tech (51-7, 9/24/05).
• Of the 33 shutouts in the Bud Foster Era, three have come against Boston College. Tech’s three shutouts of BC since 1987 are tied with Temple for the most of any opponent.
• The Hokies are 3-1 in their last visits to Boston College and are 8-4 all-time in Chestnut Hill.
• The series dates back to 1993 and the Hokies have won three of their last five meetings with the Eagles.
• Tech is 12-6 all-time against the Eagles when ranked in the Top 25.
VIRGINIA TECH-BOSTON COLLEGE CONNECTIONS
• Boston College’s offense is headed up by offensive coordinator Scott Loeffler, who was the OC under former head coach Frank Beamer from 2013-15.
• Loeffler recruited current Hokies QB Josh Jackson while on staff in Blacksburg. Loeffler also worked alongside Jackson’s father, Fred, during his two coaching stints at Michigan as a student assistant and graduate assistant from 1996-98 and as the quarterbacks coach from 2002-07. Fred was an assistant at Michigan from 1992-2014.
• Virginia Tech senior director of football strength and conditioning Anthony Crosby spent two seasons at Boston College from 2010-12.
