Hokies, Corps of Cadets and Tech students set for Military Appreciation

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech’s football contest on Saturday against Old Dominion will mark Military Appreciation Day at Lane Stadium. All five service branches will be honored along with those who have, and who are currently members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Five select members of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will join the Hokies in the tunnel prior to the team taking Worsham Field. These five students will honor each of the five service branches.

Branch: Cadet, Class, Hometown

Army: Sullivan Delaney, Junior, West Chester, Pennslyvania

Navy: Abel Solomo, Junior, Cedar Park, Texas

Air Force: Dominic Angelo, Sophomore, Murrysville, Pennslyvania

Marines: Jared Filzen, Senior, Arlington, Virginia

Coast Guard: Christopher Us, Junior, Fairfield, Connecticut

This week’s color bearers for the Hokies are:

U.S. Flag: Kyle Chung

Commonwealth of Virginia Flag: Trevon Hill

Virginia Tech Flag: Deon Newsome

As a special tribute to Tech’s long tradition of honoring the military, Chung, Hill and Newsome will present the colors to three freshmen members of the Corps of Cadets after the Hokies have taken the field.

Curt Batchelor Merritt Island, Florida

Shane Schipper Frederick, Maryland

Kickoff time is set for 2:00 pm and festivities also include the honoring of the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame class at halftime.
