Phillips had 14 receptions for 189 yards and three touchdown catches on Saturday. It was his fourth career 100-yard receiving game and the first multi-touchdown game of his career. His 14 catches set a new school record previously held by Donald Snell (vs. Cincinnati, 8/31/85) and Nick Cullen (vs. Southern Miss, 10/27/90), who both registered 13 receptions in a game.

The Laurel, Maryland native’s three receiving touchdowns set new a career high and were the most receiving touchdowns by a Virginia Tech player since Bucky Hodges also had three in a triple overtime game vs. Duke (10/24/15). The game was also Phillips’ 30th consecutive game with a reception, tying Isaiah Ford’s program record. Phillips has recorded a catch in every game since the first contest of his sophomore season.

Jackson completed 24 of 31 passes for 372 yards and threw for five touchdowns with no turnovers in the Hokies’ victory over the Pirates. Jackson set new career highs in completions, attempts, passing yards, passing touchdowns and had his longest career completion, a 70-yard touchdown toss to redshirt junior running back Travon McMillian.

His five touchdown passes tied Bryan Randall (vs. Syracuse, 11/9/02) and Jerod Evans (vs. Boston College, 9/17/16) for the most in a single game in program history. His 372 yards in the air were the most by a Tech freshman signal caller and the fifth most for any Hokie quarterback since 1987. Jackson is the first Virginia Tech quarterback to win his first three career starts since Logan Thomas in 2011.

Phillips, Jackson and the rest of the No. 13 Hokies will be back in action this Saturday at Lane Stadium for a 2 p.m. kickoff against Old Dominion. Tickets can be purchased by clicking on the link at the top right of the story.
