NFL Hokies ready for Week 2 action

Taylor, Exum and Clark all seek 2-0 starts to 2017 regular season

QB Tyrod Taylor & TE Logan Thomas (Buffalo) and S Chuck Clark (Baltimore) all opened the season with wins and are seeking to start the season with back-to-back victories. Here’s a look at Hokies who will be in action in this Sunday’s NFL game.

Buffalo at Carolina – 1 p.m.

QB Tyrod Taylor, TE Logan Thomas and the Buffalo Bills will take on the Carolina Panthers. Taylor will try to get some offense production against a defense that is ranked 3rd in the NFL in total defense after permitting 217 yards last week. Taylor is serving as a captain for the Bills. Taylor completed 16 of 28 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in last week’s matchup against the Jets. Recently, the Panthers signed TE Bucky Hodges ot their practice squad.

Cleveland at Baltimore – 1 p.m.

S Chuck Clark and Baltimore face another AFC North after the Ravens pitched a 20-0 shutout at Cincinnati last week. The Browns are trying to get their first win of the season after suffering a 21-18 loss vs. Pittsburgh. Clark will hope to build upon the expensive he gained in his first NFL game after seeing time on special teams last week.

Philadelphia at Kansas City – 1 p.m.

The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead as Andy Reid faces his former team and his former assistant, Doug Pederson, who now coaches the Eagles. LB Dadi Nicolas is still on the PUP list, recovering from a from a ruptured patellar tendon suffered during Week 17 of the 2016 season. Tech alums Eugene Chung and Keith Gray are both on the Eagles’ staff.

Arizona at Indianapolis – 1 p.m.

Head Coach Bruce Arians and the Arizona Cardinals travel to Indianapolis to take on the Colts. Both teams are trying to find their first win without their star players David Johnson (Cardinals) and Andrew Luck (Colts). Tech alum Nick Rapone serves as the defensive backs coach for the Cardinals’ staff.

New England at New Orleans – 1 p.m.

RB Trey Edmunds and the New Orleans Saints will take on the defending Super Bowl champions. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the season. The oldest Edmunds brother made the Saints as a rookie free agent and registered two tackles and one kick return of 22 yards in his NFL debut at Minnesota.

Minnesota at Pittsburgh – 1 p.m.

S Antone Exum, Jr. and the Minnesota Vikings will try to keep their momentum going against the Pittsburgh Steelers after posting a 29-19 win against the Saints on Monday Night Football.

Chicago at Tampa Bay – 1 p.m.

CB Kyle Fuller and the Chicago Bears travel to Tampa to take on the Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. This will be the Buccaneers’ home opener as their week one match up against the Miami Dolphins was rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma. Fuller was second on the team in tackles last week after racking up six.

San Francisco at Seattle – 4:25 p.m.

S Kam Chancellor and the Seattle Seahawks will look to get on track against the rival 49ers. Both clubs are seeking their initial win of the season. Seattle lost a narrow 17-9 decision at Lambeau Field against the Packers, while San Francisco suffered a 23-3 loss vs. Carolina. Chancellor is serving as a captain for Seattle and recorded four tackles at Green Bay.

Miami Dolphins at L.A. Chargers – 4:05 p.m.

The Miami Dolphins take on the L.A. Chargers after Miami’s regular season opener vs. Tampa Bay was rescheduled due to Hurricane Irma. WR Isaiah Ford is currently on IR for Miami after suffering a knee injury during the preseason. Ford was on the sidelines last weekend at Lane Stadium as the Hokies posted a 27-0 shutout over Delaware.

Washington at L.A. Rams – 4:05 p.m.

CB Kendall Fuller and the Washington Redskins will travel across the country as they attempt to win their first game against the L.A. Rams. Tech alum Torian Gray is member of the Redskins’ staff. Fuller registered five tackles last week vs. Philadelphia. RB Sam Rogers is on the Rams’ practice squad.
