NFL Hokies conclude opening weekend

Tyrod Taylor gets the win for Bills, Edmunds playing Beamer Ball

Here’s a look at highlights from Week One where Hokies were in action.

Buffalo 21, Jets 12

QB Tyrod Taylor led his team to victory against New York Jets at New Era Field in Orchard Park, New York. Taylor completed 16 of 28 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. TE Logan Thomas made it onto the field however; he was not able to record a reception on the day.

QB Tyrod Taylor is his seventh NFL campaign and his third as the starter in Buffalo. Taylor has a new receiving target as his disposal this season. Logan Thomas also played quarterback at Tech, but has made the Bills’ roster as a tight end.

Vikings 29, Saints 19

Antone Exum, Jr. and the Minnesota Vikings defended home field at U.S. Bank Stadium against Trey Edmunds and the New Orleans Saints.

Edmunds made his regular season NFL debut after making the New Orleans roster as a rookie free agent. He brought some Beamer Ball to Monday Night Football, notching two tackles on special teams as well as returning the opening kickoff for 22 yards.

TE Bucky Hodges (Vikings) and WR Corey Fuller (Saints) were both placed on injured reserve for their respective teams and started the season on the sidelines.

Falcons 23, Bears 17

CB Kyle Fuller and the Chicago Bears lost a close fought match against the defending NFC champions, a game that came down to the very last play. Kyle Fuller registered six tackles, five of which were solo tackles. Fuller is entering his fourth NFL campaign after joining the Bears as a first-round pick in 2014.

Ravens 20, Bengals 0

A suffocating defense helped the Baltimore Ravens get a win get against divisional rival Cincinnati Bengals. Rookie S Chuck Clark took the opportunity to garner experience in the matchup.

TE Ryan Malleck is a member of the Ravens practice squad.

Eagles 30, Redskins 17

Kendall Fuller, coach Torian Gray and the Washington Redskins lost a hard fought game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Fuller recorded five tackles and a tackle for loss on the day.

S DeAngelo Hall is still on the PUP list as he is rehabbing from a torn ACL suffered last season. Tech alum Torian Gray is member of the Redskins’ staff while alums Eugene Chung and Keith Gray are both on the Eagles’ staff.

Rams 46, Colts 9

The L.A. Rams played smothering defense in their win against the Indianapolis Colts. RB Sam Rogers is a member of the Rams’ practice squad and didn’t suit up for this contest.

Packers 17, Seahawks 9

Kam Chancellor and the Seattle Seahawks lost a narrow decision at Lambeau Field. Chancellor finished the night registering four total tackles. Former Hokies’ S Nick Sorensen serves as secondary coach for the Seahawks.

Chiefs 42, Patriots 27

The Kansas City Chiefs started the season by taking on the New England Patriots Thursday. LB Dadi Nicholas started the year on the PUP list, recovering from a ruptured patellar tendon suffered during Week 17 of the 2016 season.
