NFL Hokies conclude preseason, prep for regular season

Several Tech alums improved their stock on Thursday night

Thursday marked the final preseason game for NFL clubs before teams must cut down to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. However, there’s a chance that players released could come back to the practice squad. Each NFL team can establish a 10-man practice squad on Sunday.

Here’s a look at some highlights from last night’s contest where Hokies were in action.

Ravens 14, Saints 13

Chuck Clark, Ryan Malleck and the Baltimore Ravens squeaked by the Saints’ trio of Hokies – Corey Fuller, Darryl Tapp and Trey Edmunds. Clark registered five tackles and a sack on the night for Baltimore.

Darryl Tapp is entering his 11^th NFL season and his second campaign with the Saints. Rookie RB Trey Edmunds has posted 13 carries for 39 yards in the preseason. WR Corey Fuller is a Baltimore native and attended Woodlawn High School. He’s in his initial campaign with New Orleans after entering the league as a sixth-round pick of Detroit in 2013.

Packers 24, Rams 10

Sam Rogers had two catches with a long reception of 12 yards but the Packers got the win at home.

Bills 27, Lions 17

Logan Thomas and Nigel Williams and the Buffalo Bills got the best of Nick Becton and the Detroit Lions. Thomas finished the night with four catches for 30 yards with a long of 13 yards. QB Tyrod Taylor did not play after being placed into concussion protocol after last Saturday’s game.

Broncos 30, Cardinals 2

Ken Ekanem and the Denver Broncos played smothering defense in the victory against the Arizona Cardinals’ Head Coach Bruce Arians and T Johnathan McLaughlin. Ekanem contributed three tackles on the night, one of which resulted in a sack

Dolphins 30, Vikings 9

Antone Exum, Bucky Hodges and the Minnesota Vikings fell to the Miami Dolphins. Exum registered two tackles in the loss.

Redskins 13, Tampa Bay 10

CB Kendall Fuller, T Vinston Painter and Redskins’ secondary coach Torrian Gray were part of a 13-10 win in Tampa.

Don’t be surprised if you see Kendall Fuller, Vinston Painter, Torrian Gray and DeAngelo Hall show up on Tech’s sidelines on Sunday night at FedExField when the Hokies open the season against West Virginia.
