Tech announces Twenty4You plan for 2017 season

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech Athletics Department announced today its Twenty4You initiative for the 2017 football season, as athletics department officials look to build off previous years’ campaigns and continue enhancing fans’ game day experiences.

The department launched this initiative in 2015 as a way to improve fans’ game day experience at Lane Stadium and later carried it over to Cassell Coliseum during basketball season. Department officials surveyed season ticket holders and fans, receiving numerous suggestions and comments and then implemented the 24-point plan – hence the name “Twenty4You” – for the 2015 season.

This year’s initiative includes eight enhancements based on feedback received from the 2016 Fan Focus Group, as well as fan surveys that were distributed throughout the season.

The enhancements are the following:

  • Chair-back seating – Tech officials are introducing brand new chair-backs for rental through the department’s partners at IMG Seating. These chair-backs are available for rental by visiting (https://order.seatbacks.com/hokieseats).
  • Concessions – Department officials have shifted and added concessions options across Lane Stadium to allow for more options available on each concourse. We are introducing a new, easy-to-follow map this season to show all of Hokie Nation what items are available at each stand in Lane. In addition, new partners Papa John’s and Tropical Smoothie will have multiple locations in the stadium this football season.
  • Virginia Tech HokieSports App – The replacement for the old “HokiesXtra” app, “HokieSports” is your new one-stop shop for everything Hokies! Featuring free live audio, social streams, and interactive stadium maps, this is a must-have. Search “HokieSports” in the Apple Store to download.
  • Card Stunt – In 2016, Hokie Nation put together a fantastic card stunt for the Orange Effect game vs. East Carolina. This season, a card stunt will take place for the Maroon Effect game vs. defending national champion Clemson.
  • East side bleachers – Continuing the process that started with the upper reaches of the East side in 2016, the rest of the bleachers covering the East side of Lane Stadium were replaced this offseason with updated, aluminum bleachers. This will add to the visual appeal of the East Side.
  • Video scoreboard stats – There will be an increased presence of stats on the video board this season featuring live and on-going updates of both individual and team stats throughout the contest. With a new layout, stats will be visible during gameplay as well as at breaks in the action. Out of town scores will continue to be emphasized.
  • Tailgate Guys – In regards to another new update for 2017, Virginia Tech Athletics has partnered with “Tailgate Guys” to offer fans an upgraded way to tailgate in Blacksburg. All packages include complimentary setup and breakdown of one’s setup on Dietrick Lawn. Fans do not have to do any work at all! For more information on packages, click here.
  • VT Football 125 – Virginia Tech is celebrating the 125th anniversary of Virginia Tech football in 2017. Look out this season, as the athletics department welcomes back Virginia Tech football alumni from the past 50 seasons. There will also be 6 souvenir cups available, 1 per game, depicting different eras of Hokies Football. For more, including ways fans can tell the football program how “Your Story Is Our Story”, please visit vtfootball.com/125.
  • Focus Group/surveys – In its third year, the Hokie Fan Focus Group returns with the purpose of improving the fan experience for all of Hokie Nation at all of Virginia Tech Athletics venues. Fan surveys will continue to be sent after each football game and after various men’s and women’s basketball games.

The Virginia Tech athletics department constantly is looking to improve upon the game day experience, and feedback is appreciated. Fans should be on the lookout throughout the season for fan surveys, or submit feedback here.
